Both doubles teams have a chance at being selected to the main draw as reserves.
CARY, N.C. – Florida women's tennis completed the qualifying rounds of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-American Championships on Tuesday in Cary, N.C.
Freshman Anastasia Sysoeva put up a fight in singles competition against Anika Yarlagadda of North Carolina. After falling in the opening frame, 6-4, Sysoeva responded with a dominant second set that she took with ease, 6-1. With a chance to advance on the line, both athletes gave impressive efforts in the third set, but it would be the Tar Heel who would hold on for the 7-6(5) victory.
In doubles play, Carly Briggs and Rachel Gailis battled against Jaeden Brown and Kari Miller of Michigan, but couldn't overcome the duo, falling 8-5. Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee also found themselves in a close match with Fresno State's Yinglak Jittakot and Matilde Magrini. The Fresno State duo was able to hold on for an 8-6 victory, however.
Both doubles squads could find a slot in the main draw of the tournament, as they are the first two reserve doubles squads if any teams drop out of the bracket. The main draw will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
