The 2021 Oscars arrive this weekend after a significant delay.
The ceremony, which usually takes place in February, was pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on the film industry.
The 93rd Academy Awards will air 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT Sunday, April 25 on ABC from two locations: Los Angeles’ Union Station and the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. See below for a complete list of nominations.
This year brings several New Jersey-connected nominees.
To catch up with the awards chatter, here is our February story on the Lucas Brothers, the Newark comedians who co-wrote the Oscar-nominated film “Judas and the Black Messiah,” directed by Shaka King, which is up for six awards, including best original screenplay and best picture.
Here’s our February story on Montclair’s Jessica Bruder, the author of the book that gave us another best picture nominee, “Nomadland,” directed by ChloĆ© Zhao, which has six nominations total.
And here’s a look at “Colette,” the Oscar-nominated documentary short from director Anthony Giacchino, who grew up in Edgewater Park.
The Aaron Sorkin-directed best picture nominee “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” which is also up for six Oscars, filmed in New Jersey — but that’s not the only Jersey connection, which you can read about here.
