DELAND, Fla. - The third-seeded FGCU beach volleyball team (17-14) suffered a 4-1 loss to No. 16 and top-seeded Stetson (19-12) in the winner's bracket final of the ASUN Championship on Saturday at the Cooper Beach volleyball courts.

The Eagles will now meet North Florida at 11 a.m. on Sunday in the loser's bracket final with the winner advancing to the 1 p.m. winner-take-all title match at 1 p.m. against Stetson.

"When you want to beat the best, you have to play your best, and we were way too high-error today to defeat a team with the talent level of Stetson's," FGCU head coach Chris Sweat said. "Sunday is a huge day for us, and the girls are ready for the challenge."

FGCU was led by the No. 5 pair of Jenna Banz and Trinity Rosales, who improved to 3-0 in the tournament with a 21-19, 21-15 win over Stetson's Devin Corah and Madison Bobes. The duo hasn't lost a set this weekend either, improving to 13-11 together this year while Rosales (17) and Banz (15) each improved their individual win totals.

After splitting the first wave, the Green and Blue fell in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3. The first set of each of those matches went down to the wire and proved to be big momentum swings. Kayla Whetstone and Kacie Johnson fell 22-20 at No. 2 while Maddison Parmelly and Lexie Hamilton fell 24-22.

At No. 1, Giovanna Borgiotti and Kirstine Garder also lost the first set, but won 21-19 in the second before falling 15-12 in the third.

As a team, FGCU remains one win shy of tying the program's single-season record established in 2019.

The Eagles also served an all-time high 7,200 volunteer hours in 2017 - being recognized as one of two runners-up for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
