BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama baseball put together a complete effort on Tuesday evening at Regions Field, taking down the UAB Blazers by a score of 9-3. The midweek win sets the Crimson Tide at 25-15 on the season.
Jake Eddington (1-0) picked up his first career win in a spot start. After finding out he would get the nod just minutes before first pitch, Eddington came out and worked 3.0 innings of two-run baseball with four strikeouts. The right-hander then turned it over to the bullpen with the duo of Eli Giles and Hunter Ruth working the final 6.0 frames. Ruth earned the save with 3.0 scoreless that featured four strikeouts.
Alabama's offense put together an equally impressive performance, posting nine runs on 12 hits with eight of the nine starters recording at least one base knock. Six of those hits were doubles, a new season-high total for UA. The offense was led by Caden Rose with the freshman finishing 3-for-4 and a triple short of the cycle. Rose added a team-high three runs to go with two RBI.
"I was really proud of our kids, they really brought it tonight. It was a really well-rounded game. I'm really pleased with the three kids that pitched tonight. Jake Eddington found out about 20 minutes before the game that he was starting with us having a late scratch. Jake set the tone for us, Eli (Giles) threw the ball well and Hunter Ruth was outstanding for his second time in a row. We scored in six different innings, made a lot of hard contact up and down the lineup and made some nice defensive plays, so it was a really good day for us."
How It Happened
- T1 | William Hamiter doubled to center before coming home in the next at-bat on an RBI-single from Zane Denton. (1-0, Alabama)
- B1 | The Blazers led off the game with a single. The UAB leadoff man then stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before a sac fly scored the tying run. (1-1)
- T2 | Alabama used a pair of runs to regain the lead. Drew Williamson led off the inning with a single and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. The extra 90 feet were key as Caden Rose hammered a double down the line in left to bring Williamson across from second. Rose would come home himself two batters later on a 4-3 groundout to add the inning's second run. (3-1, Alabama)
- B2 | UAB started the second with a single. Two outs later, a triple to left-center narrowed the lead to one. (3-2, Alabama)
- T3 | Denton stayed hot with a double down the line in right. He moved to third on a passed ball before a sac fly from Sam Praytor brought him in to push the advantage to two once again. (4-2, Alabama)
- T4 | Rose made it a three-run game with his solo home run to left. (5-2, Alabama)
- T6 | Williamson led off the frame with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. He then came home on a 4-3 groundout from Jim Jarvis to add one more. (6-2, Alabama)
- B6 | UAB led the inning off with a single before a double to right-center brought across a run for the Blazers. (6-3, Alabama)
- T8 | Rose started the rally with a one-out single. Jarvis then put runners on the corners with single to right with Bryce Eblin capitalizing on the opportunity, singling to left to cross Rose. Peyton Wilson followed with a double off the wall in right to bring in Jarvis before a grounder to first from Hamiter added the inning's final tally. (9-3, Alabama)
