Meet the Mets

Jacob deGrom took the mound in the series opener against the Nationals and pitched the best game of his career, throwing a complete game two-hit shutout with a career high 15 strikeouts (and notching two hits at the plate as well) to lead the Mets to a 6-0 win.

deGrom recorded his 50th strikeout on the season last night, passing Nolan Ryan and Shane Bieber’s records for the most strikeouts in a pitcher’s first four starts to open a season.

The dominance that deGrom has demonstrated during this stretch needs to be put into perspective to be fully appreciated.

Prior to the game yesterday, the Mets optioned Joey Lucchesi to the alternate site and recalled left-handed reliever Stephen Tarpley.

The Wilpons—remember them?—are reportedly exploring the possibility of selling SNY, with Steve Cohen being one of the parties potentially interested in purchasing the network.

Could deGrom continue to dominate deep into his thirties? Experts think he’s got a legitimate chance.

Zack Scott provided comments on a variety of subjects, including the positives and negatives of the season thus far and the eventual returns of Noah Syndergaard and Seth Lugo.

Scott also indicated that the Mets have not yet gotten 85% of their players and personnel vaccinated.

Around the National League East

Huascar Ynoa pitched six solid innings and Ozzie Albies and Austin Riley both hit dingers to lead the Braves to a 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

The Phillies bullpen gave up three runs in the final three innings, culminating in a walk-off solo shot by Raimel Tapia to deliver a 5-4 loss for Philadelphia.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jesus Aguilar hit dingers for the Marlins, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Fish from falling to the Giants 5-3.

Federal Baseball provided a profile of Nationals closer Brad Hand.

Around Major League Baseball

Major League Baseball and the Rockies unveiled the logo for the 2021 All-Star Game, which is now taking place in Denver.

The Athletics extended their remarkable winning streak to twelve games with a 3-1 win over the Orioles.

On the anniversary of the day in which Fernando Tatis Sr. hit two grand slams in the same inning at Dodger Stadium, Fernando Tatis Jr. hit two home runs in the same game at Dodger Stadium.

In shocking news, Giancarlo Stanton hit a couple of balls very, very hard.

The rough injury luck for the Dodgers continued, as rookie Zach McKinstry became the fifth player to be placed on the IL for the team.
