According to Parker County Sheriff's Office, the victim paid the contractor $18,000 to do the job.

PARKER COUNTY, Texas — Parker County Sheriff's Office announced that 48-year-old Michael Eric Haefner was arrested on Monday for a felony theft charge after failing to complete a job his remodeling company was hired to do.

According to the sheriff's office, a woman hired Haefner's company, Freedom Remodeling, LLC, to repair damages to her home caused by a water leak in May 2022.

The sheriff's office says a representative of the company quoted her a total of $23,390 for the job.

According to the sheriff's office, a representative accepted the woman's initial payment of more than $18,000. However, several months passed, and she didn't hear from anyone.

Following numerous attempts to contact the company, a representative finally started the job in August 2022, although not much work was done and no one came to finish the job, the sheriff's office says.

According to the sheriff's office, the woman requested a refund in September 2022. Three days later, the initial representative reached out to her to tell her that he no longer worked for the company and that she would have to contact the owner, Haefner.

Parker County Sheriff's Office says Haefner told the woman that he would finish the job and give her a refund, continuing to give excuses as to why the job wasn't completed in the first place. However, soon after, he became unreachable for several months.

Finally, in February 2023, the woman was able to contact Haefner, but he told her the issue was with the former employee and referred her back to him.

The woman filed a report with the Parker County Sheriff's Office, and investigators were able to obtain a subpoena for company records that revealed they took the woman's payment, did not complete the job, and owed the woman over $9,000.

According to the sheriff's office, investigators were able to get a warrant for Haefner's arrest and arrested him on Monday, July 10 on a felony charge of theft of property.
