Pulitzer Winner ‘A Strange Loop’ Leads Tony Nominations: The Complete 2022 List - Forbes

susukema.blogspot.com

The show must go on, indeed. After Broadway’s hopeful autumn, brutal winter, and chaotic spring, the nominations for the 75th annual Tony Awards have been announced.

Pulitzer winner A Strange Loop leads the pack with 11 nominations, including Best Musical. And The Lehman Trilogy nabbed 8 nods, more than any other play, including noms for all three of its actors.

Nominee Joshua Henry and last year’s Best Actress winner, Adrienne Warren, did the honors of announcing the nominees, while recent Oscar winner and Hamilton alum Ariana DeBose will host the ceremony itself on June 12th. Last year’s much-delayed presentation was in September, and while joyous, was hampered by the Delta wave and internal mismanagment, drawing record-low viewership. Presenters are hoping 2022 will bring more eyes and fans, as the industry crosses its collective fingers for a bountiful summer tourist season.

The list below represents 34 eligible shows that opened after the industry resumed performances, with 15 in the last month alone. More in-depth coverage on its way, including notable snubs, surprises, and analysis of how the awards could buoy the billion-dollar industry’s pandemic recovery.
