(25News Now) - Utility crews were working to restore electricity to thousands of Central Illinois power customers Thursday night after storms pounded the area earlier in the day.

At 8:40 p.m., about 2,600 customers still had their lights out in Peoria County, according to the PowerOutage.us website.

About 1,450 customers were without electricity in Tazewell County, 770 customers in McLean County, just under 940 customers in Fulton County, and about 1,100 in each in Knox and Stark Counties. The website said just over 4,300 customers were without power in Logan County.

There were about 15,000 Sangamon County customers were still without electricity. In Sangamon County’s largest city of Springfield, the mayor declared a state of emergency and imposed a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew.
