MSU Men's Basketball Announces Complete 2021-22 Season Schedule - Bobcats Athletics

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State men's basketball team has finalized its non-conference portion of its 2021-22 slate to complete the Bobcats' upcoming season schedule. MSU is scheduled to play 11 non-conference tilts and 20 Big Sky Conference matchups ahead of the league's postseason tournament which takes place from March 8-12 in Boise, Idaho.

MSU opens the season by traveling to Boulder to face Colorado in the CU Events Center on Nov. 9. The Buffaloes finished last season ranked in the top 25 – following an appearance in the Pac-12 championship game – and earned a victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

"This will be the most challenging schedule we've played since I got here," said Montana State head coach Danny Sprinkle. "Colorado is a perennial top tier Pac-12 team. If you look at their record at home, it's top notch. Tad Boyle is a tremendous coach, so they'll be really good."

The Bobcats make their official home debut on Sunday, Nov. 14, by hosting Rocky Mountain. That contest held in Worthington Arena serves as the precursor to seven consecutive away games.

The first big road trip for the program this season takes place with matchups at South Dakota State (Nov. 17) and New Mexico (Nov. 20). The 'Cats then will spend the Thanksgiving break in the Alamo City appearing in the Incarnate Word Tournament. MSU will play three straight games against Portland (Nov. 26), Incarnate Word (Nov. 27) and Southeast Missouri (Nov. 28).

"South Dakota State has one of the best home court winning percentages over the last 10 years of anybody in the country, so that's always a tough place to play," Sprinkle said. "We go to The Pit in New Mexico which is one of the best venues in the country. It'll be fun to go back down there because that's the site of the last time we played in the NCAA Tournament when we played Syracuse.

"The Incarnate Word Tournament in San Antonio will be a good opportunity to play three schools that are at our level. It was the only time we could fit in a multi-team event with the league schedule starting the first week of December. The event lets us maximize the number of games we can play, and for a lot of our new guys, will help get their feet wet and get more experience going into our first two league games."

MSU's conference schedule begins with two games early in December to break up the non-conference stretch of contests. The 'Cats play at Northern Colorado (Dec. 2) and Sacramento State (Dec. 4) before a home matchup in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse versus North Dakota State on Dec. 7.

A trip to the Twin Cities serves as the Bobcats' final away game of 2021 when MSU visits new Division I foe St. Thomas on Dec. 11 in St. Paul.

"We come home to play North Dakota State. (NDSU) and South Dakota State will be two of the best teams in the Summit League. That battle, whatever you want to call it between the Big Sky and Summit League, we got kind of a bad draw playing those two really good teams.

"Then we go to St. Thomas which is a new Division I school in St. Paul that a lot of people may not have heard of, but they were really successful at the Division III level. They've got like six Division I transfers. With their proximity to players, they're going to be a good Summit League team in the future and will be a tough game for us this year."

Four consecutive home games gear Montana State up for the chunk of its season. The 'Cats complete a home-and-home series with Portland on Dec. 19 as the Pilots make the trip to Bozeman for a contest on Dec. 19. The 'Cats close out their non-conference schedule on Dec. 22 by taking on SAGU American Indian College ahead of two Big Sky Conference matchups in Worthington Arena versus Weber State (Dec. 30) and Idaho State (Jan. 1).

"It's going to be a brutal schedule," Sprinkle said. "We had to pack a lot of games in and get a lot of teams on the road. It was really hard for us this year, teams just wouldn't come here and play us for whatever reason. We'll go be road warriors and hopefully gain some confidence from that before the Big Sky schedule."

Along with the complete schedule release for the 2021-22 season, MSU has set its designated start times for all home games for the upcoming slate. Start times can be viewed below and are on the team schedule page at msubobats.com. Season ticket renewals are currently underway with single-game tickets available for purchase at a later date.
