ROSEAU, Minn. – The first phase of an extensive $43 million renovation and expansion of the K-12 complex at Roseau Community Schools is complete, contractor Kraus-Anderson said Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Work on the initial phase, which includes two-story classroom spaces for English, language and social studies, along with site improvements, began in July 2020. Progress continues on the remaining construction phases, with a goal of completing the project in the fall of 2022.
Designed by JLG Architects, the project consists of 81,000 square feet of new construction and a 60,000-square-foot remodel, providing new spaces for educational programming and activities to improve student learning opportunities.
The high school spaces will feature new classrooms, including career and technical education, a music suite for band and choir, administrative and common spaces, according to a Kraus-Anderson news release. The project will also provide improved and enlarged gymnasium spaces to meet physical education, co-curricular and community programming needs.
Outdated systems including ventilation, heating, electrical, lighting, roofing, exterior walls and insulation, will be replaced, and additional improvements will address Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) deficiencies, safety and security measures and updates to fire and life safety codes, according to Kraus-Anderson.
Modifications being made to the elementary school will include new safety and security improvements at the primary building entrance and will improve the parent and bus pick-up/drop-off circulation drive area.
Roseau Community Schools is one of dozens of major K-12 construction projects Kraus-Anderson is working on this year during its “Summer Sprint,” the company said, a critical, concentrated time during the summer months when school is not in session and crews can perform work that ranges from new school construction to upgrades to deferred maintenance projects.
