EAST MEN'S PARTICIPANTS | EAST WOMEN'S PARTICIPANTS

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com)

– The Eastern Michigan University track & field program had a valiant showing on the second day of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in Jacksonville, Fla., today, May 27. Despite the solid efforts, three Eagles saw their seasons come to a close and will take a brief summer break before preparing for the next season.

Senior Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) finished her historic year with a hammer throw of 56.16m for 41st overall in the competition. For Clarke, she wraps up her senior campaign having achieved the school record in the outdoor shot put (14.83m) and hammer throw (58.87m) as well as No. 2 in the indoor shot put (15.29m). Also in the field, junior Nina Ward (Fairfield, Ohio-Fairfield) leaped 5.73m in the long jump for 39th in her first regional appearance. On the track junior Tiffany Cernej-Garcia (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Ann Arbor Pioneer) crossed the finish line in 1:03.66 in the 400m hurdles to take 46th.

The men return to the campus of the University of North Florida tomorrow, May 28, with a handful of NCAA hopefuls. At 1:30 p.m., graduate students Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) and Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron) take on the best in the east in the discus. Bryant already qualified for the NCAA Championships after his performance in the hammer throw, May 27, but will have a shot to make it in the discus as well. Furthermore, redshirt senior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Windhoek, Namibia-Fishburne Military (Bethany College)) is set to compete in his second event tomorrow as well. The Namibia native will test his skills in the triple jump at 3:15 p.m.

EMU will also see a pair of distance runners take part in the 5000m race in junior Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) and redshirt sophomore Chris Devaney (New Plymouth, New Zealand-New Plymouth). The event begins at 8:30 p.m. with Devaney competing in the first heat and Magnusson in the second.
