COLLEGE STATION, Texas - After Friday's events were postponed due to inclement weather, the DePaul men's 4x100m relay took to the track on Saturday morning at the NCAA West Prelims.
The squad comprised of Ashton Colaire, Kyle Mastrangeli, Adam Nelson, and Brendan van Voorhis entered the meet with the 20th fastest qualifying time after finishing second at the BIG EAST Championships on May 15.
The Blue Demons broke the program record on Saturday for the second time this season with a time of 39.90 to claim 15th place. The previous school standard of 39.91 was set on May 7 at the Pacesetter Sports Invitational and broke a record that stood since 1995.
Saturday marked the completion of the 2021 Outdoor Track & Field season for DePaul after much success this spring. The Blue Demons claimed four BIG EAST titles and saw a total of 14 podium finishes. Program records were shattered on nine occasions, and eight Blue Demons competed at the NCAA West Prelims.
"After a long week of championship track and field, we have come to the end of our most unusual season," said head coach David Dopek. "A season that began with so much uncertainty and stress ended as one of the better ones that we have had recently."
Dopek referenced the school record that was notched on the final day of action and was proud of the Blue Demons' effort all year in setting a handful of school records.
"It's bittersweet actually," said Dopek. "We acknoweldege and are pleased with the success we had this year, especially with our returning seniors who have had such a difficult end to their college experience. As we look towards the future, we have already begun to prepare to turn the "what ifs" of this year into what it needs to be going forward."
