Luckily the man who helped make the first one is still here to recreate the new one
When the landmark eagle sculpture was removed from La Crosse’s Riverside Park back in September, as it was in need of repairs and then it would be returned to it’s spot on Second and Main streets.
On Thursday, we talked to the man doing those repairs and it turns out it was a much bigger fix than everyone originally thought it would be.
“Basically, we’re making a new one. We’re replacing every part on it. Everything is pretty much beyond repair. The head we’ll keep and the tail, but every other piece will be replaced, ” according to Al Schultz the Owner of Custom Fab and Machine in La Crosse.
You heard that right! It’s almost a complete replacement.
They’ve had to take it a part one piece at a time, duplicate them and put them back together.
Schultz also helped with the original statue too, which was created by Elmer Peterson.
The tree the eagle was on top of is also being recreated.
Schultz is hoping to have the eagle statue completed by the spring.
