ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Illuminights is wrapping up a magical season, but there are still three more nights left to enjoy the second annual Winter Walk of Lights.
You can expect beautiful lights, fun displays and great photo opportunities.
There are some new additions this year, including fake snow and lights that sync up to the music.
The themes this year are Over the River, Through the Woods, Fantasy and Christmas Traditions.
As you walk the half-mile trail, you’ll see lights that fit each category.
“We loved it. It was our first time,” said Nicki Dabney, who came to see the lights with her partner, Mike Koss, and newborn baby.
“It was really impressive. I did not expect it to be this elaborate, so I liked how they had the different sections it was fun,” said Koss.
There’s also food, craft vendors, a place to roast marshmallows and much more.
Illuminights is put on by Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Center in the Square as a fundraiser.
Alex North, the recreation marketing assistant for Roanoke County, said there have been 35,000 people who’ve walked the trail so far this year and they’re glad they could still put it on even during the pandemic.
“It’s been a great season here at Illuminights this year. Despite COVID, we’ve seen a lot of families out here being able to make some Christmas memories while socially distant and with mask on,” said North. “But it’s been a great year. We’ve had great reception and feedback from the folks who have been able to come out to Illuminights.”
The last day for Illuminights is January 2. Families are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing. You can still reserve your spot by buying your ticket online in advance, by clicking here.
