Rams still without training camp dates amid coronavirus concerns - OCRegister

The Rams still haven’t announced when their preseason training camp will open as NFL teams continue to make changes to protect players and other employees from the coronavirus.

The Rams did say Thursday that players will report for coronavirus testing July 27 and 28 at the training facility in Thousand Oaks. The first date is for rookies, quarterbacks and players recovering from injuries, and the second is for other veterans. Personnel must test negative to be allowed in camp.

But the Rams are still deciding when training will actually start, spokesman Artis Twyman said.

The NFL, which still plans to open the 2020 regular season Sept. 10, had planned until recently to stick to reporting dates under which all players would have been tested, in camp and starting training by July 28.

Complicating things for some teams is the need to adjust to changing protective protocols as the league and the NFL Players Association continues to negotiate over health and financial issues related to the pandemic.

The two sides are reported to have agreed to cancel all preseason games, which were scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 13, reduce rosters from 90 to 80 players for the start of training camps, and test players for the virus every day for the first two weeks.

Under league-wide policy this year, the Rams will hold training camp at their regular-season facility instead of UC Irvine.

Fans will not be allowed to attend practice this year.
