As was previously announced on June 16, the University of Iowa hired the Kansas City law firm Husch Blackwell to conduct an independent review of issues and allegations relating to racial disparities within the football program.

The review included interviews with former and current players as well as coaches, staff, and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics leadership. The firm, which has extensive experience in higher education, reported its findings to the university this week.

“I have read the report, and it is clear that the climate and culture must and will change within our football program,” says UI President Bruce Harreld. “Our student-athletes must have the ability to be true to themselves, and we cannot and will not tolerate a systemic process that inhibits authenticity.”

In addition to the report, Husch Blackwell provided the university with four personnel reports related to current and former employees that will be a part of those individuals’ confidential personnel records.

“We have identified the issues, we have and will continue to address personnel matters, and we have started and will continue the needed change in our football program,” says Harreld.
