Sports Creek selling everything, including the seats, before ‘complete renovation’ - MLive.com

SWARTZ CREEK, MI -- Sports Creek Raceway is selling its tractors, trailers -- even the old stadium-style seats -- in advance of a renovation and targeted 2021 reopening.

Orbitbid.com said it’s overseeing a one-day, online auction of kitchen and maintenance equipment from the horse racing track from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23.

The auction includes hundreds of lots that will be sold to the highest bidder. “to make way for the construction process and all new equipment and furnishings," the auction company said in a news release.

MLive-The Flint Journal could not immediately reach Nelson Clemmens, chief executive officer of AmRace & Sports LLC, the track owner, for further comment on the auction or plans for the renovation of Sports Creek.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board executive director in March accepted a request from AmRace to withdraw a thoroughbred race meeting license and permit to simulcast this year, approvals that had been conditionally issued four months earlier.

Clemmens said then that his company is “fully vested in our commitment” to bring thoroughbred racing back to Michigan and Sports Creek, which has been closed more than five years.

AmRace has lobbied for changes in state law to allow for wagering on historical races and advance-deposit wagering on horse races, which allows for placing bets through cell phones, a measure that was signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in December.

Items included in the auction range from tractors to kitchen equipment to tables and chairs to office furniture -- even a collection of Detroit Pistons bobbleheads and a vintage wooden horse string puppet.
