Just more than a year after work began, crews have completed construction of a replacement pipeline in Jefferson City.
Phillips 66 began work to replace about 30 miles of pipeline connecting to a storage terminal in Jefferson City — 10.5 miles to the east and about 18.8 miles to the west. The pipeline carries propane and butane to customers in Missouri and Illinois.
The project was originally to be completed in four to six months but was delayed by contractor changes, wet weather, rocky soil and a mud spill into the Moreau River in January.
The old pipeline will remain underground but out of use. Rich Johnson, manager of communications for Phillips 66 Midstream, previously said the old pipeline was up to federal regulations by the U.S. Department of Transportation, but the company proactively replaced the pipeline with pipe that has a greater steel thickness.
Now the pipeline construction is complete, crews are working on land restoration in the areas where the pipeline was installed.
Land restoration includes grading and restoring land contours, reseeding grass and other vegetation, erosion control while grasses take root, and repairing any fences that were removed for construction.
Johnson said the land restoration phase of the project may take several more weeks.
Todd Creason Construction, of Carrollton, served as the project’s general contractor.
