Clayton Kershaw’s only career start on June 8 was one of the oddest in his career.
This was a rainy Sunday at Coors Field in 2014, the finale of a weekend series against the Rockies, against Jorge De La Rosa.
A triple by Matt Kemp scored two in the first, and that would prove to be enough support for Kershaw, who struck out six batters in the first two innings. His only run allowed was a solo home run by Troy Tulowitzki in the fourth inning.
The Dodgers added four more runs in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a Hanley Ramirez home run and RBI hits from Jamie Romak and Miguel Rojas. That 6-1 lead would become the final score, thanks to the game getting called after a 90-minute rain delay in the middle of the sixth.

The last Dodgers regulation game called before nine innings came on April 22, 2004, a 7-1 loss to the Rockies, also at Coors Field. The last three Dodgers games called before nine innings have been in Denver, including Sunday. The last such Dodgers game that wasn’t in Colorado was April 23, 1984, in San Diego, a 1-0 win in six innings.
This is one of two complete games for Kershaw at Coors Field. The other one, as you might have imagined, was a full nine innings.
Kershaw’s was the first complete game win under nine innings for the Dodgers in 30 years, with his pitching coach Rick Honeycutt getting the win in that one. Brett Anderson earned another five-inning, rain-shortened complete game win in Colorado 11 months after this one.
This was not Kershaw’s only complete game win over the Rockies in June 2014.
