Complete 540 project may impact weekend traffic in Raleigh - WRAL News

The Complete 540 project is moving along but will likely cause some traffic troubles this weekend in Raleigh.

The N.C. Department of Transportation said the bridge on Holly Springs Road over the future extension of the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) is scheduled to open on or around Saturday.

Contractors will be shifting traffic on Holly Springs Road between Old Center Street and Kildaire Farm Road from the temporary on-site detour to the new bridge crossing over the future Toll N.C. 540. This shift in traffic also includes the reopening access between Catherine Place and Holly Springs Road. This reopening is weather dependent, according to the NCDOT.

The Complete 540 project will extend the Triangle Expressway from the N.C. Highway 55 Bypass to Interstate 40.

Construction started four years ago on the six-lane Triangle Expressway. Phase two, which will complete N.C. 540 from I-40 at Garner to Knightdale, is scheduled to start in 2024.

The NCDOT plans to install signs advising drivers of the new traffic shift. Follow detour signs and drive cautiously in construction zones.
