After all that, the Warriors are still favored to win their first-round series against the Kings.
It might sound like a tall order. Trailing 2-1, the Dubs will have to win three of the last four games of the series, including at least one on the road. But the Dubs' star power and championship experience have most models and sportsbooks leaning toward Golden State.
The RAPTOR forecast at 538 is the highest on the Warriors after consistently shorting them last spring. Nate Silver's site has the Dubs at 60% to make the conference semifinals, far shorter odds than you'll find at any sportsbook. In fact, at 33% to make the Western Conference finals, 538 gives the Warriors nearly as good a chance to win two series as the Kings winning one. Only the Celtics, Bucks, Sixers and Nuggets have better title odds in its model; those four teams have combined to lose one game so far in these playoffs. A rude observer might say Silver's site appears to have overcorrected its models to account for the Dubs' title run last year, the exact type of thing that Silver has warned against in the past.
The books like Steph Curry's squad too, although not quite as much. Immediately after Thursday night's Game 3 win, one sportsbook had the Dubs at minus-126 to win the series, about a 55% implied probability of winning. Most sites have the Warriors at minus-115 to win the series, a slim 53% advantage and slightly better odds than the Kings are getting.
The Ringer's odds model, which was short on the Warriors at the start of the playoffs, remains unswayed by the Game 3 win. It has Sacramento at 70% to win the series and the Warriors at long odds to win two series or more. The site poked light fun at Warriors fans' tendency to whip themselves into a frenzy over the tiniest perceived slight, headlining its daily odds update simply, "Does Our Odds Machine Believe in the Warriors?"
