A few minutes later Robel Desta started to get going, converting a and-one and then making a layup, giving the Mountaineers a 14-9 lead with 11:07 left to play. Unfortunately, that lead didn't last long as the Eagles managed to get going offensively tying the game at 15-points apiece.

Similar to before, Desta got going again sinking two free throws and a jumper, giving the Mountaineers a four-point lead (24-20). After a made jumper by Northern N.M., Avery Rembao made a free throw and Syris Williams converted a jumper increasing the lead to 27-22.

- Early on in the second half, Northern N.M., tried to take a lead after making a layup that tied the game up at 33-33. However, a Kade Juelfs three-pointer gave the Mountaineers a brief three-point lead - Eagles making a jumper right after, that was followed by a Gino Corridori jumper putting the lead back at three-points.
- From there, Western took over the game for the next seven-minutes and 46-seconds. Desta knocked down a three-pointer and layup, while Corridori and Rembao each made a layup – giving the Mountaineers an eight-point lead resulting in the Eagles calling a timeout. Out of the timeout, Desta increased the lead to 10-points on a jumper.
- Northern N.M., wasn't going to down without a fight, and after Western increased their lead to 13-points (59-46) on Rembao shot in the paint, the Eagles started to chip away at the lead. Northern N.M., went on a 14-2 run as the lead was trimmed to 61-60 with 4:29 remaining.
