All eyes are on Florence Pugh—not due to her leading role in a major fall film, but because she’s been noticeably absent for much of its promotion. In the lead-up to Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling, in which she costars alongside Harry Styles, Pugh has posted sparingly about the project and skipped the Venice Film Festival press conference reportedly due to filming commitments on Dune: Part Two—only to arrive later that evening for the red carpet.

Adding fuel to the fire, Pugh will continue her disappearing act at a Don’t Worry Darling Q&A event held live at New York City’s AMC Lincoln Square Imax Theatre on September 19, sources tell Rolling Stone. “From what I understand, there is friction, but I don’t know why,” an on-set source said of Wilde and Pugh’s rumored tension. “It’s pretty clear she’s choosing not to be a part of the PR,” she noted of Pugh. “It’s clearly not beneficial to Olivia to not have her be a part of the PR. It has to be a Florence decision.”

Some have also hyper-analyzed Pugh’s post-Venice social media behavior, in which she shared a series of appreciation posts for her stylists and plus-one, her “Granzo Pat”—but did not mention the film itself or Wilde until Wednesday morning. “I’m still taking it all in! Qwoaaar. What a moment this was?” Pugh wrote alongside multiple red carpet photos, including a group shot in which Wilde, Styles, and the rest of her fellow cast members are tagged.

She went on to thank “all the cast and crew…who helped to make this movie,” although the only person Pugh directly named was costar Chris Pine. “I also just can’t help but post how bloody cute and hilarious Chris Pine is for being the no.1 photographer, getting down on white pressed trousered knees for angles. now that’s dedication,” Pugh wrote, adding, “Love you Chrissy.”

Although there was presumed chilliness between Pugh, Wilde, and Styles at Venice, with Variety’s Ramin Setoodeh reporting that director and leading lady didn’t make eye contact during the film’s standing ovation—other sources refuted feuding claims to Rolling Stone. One source who worked on the project said conflict between the pair “just didn’t exist on set. It was really pleasant. It’s shocking to me that all this is going on…. I never noticed one second of tension on that set. Not one second.”

However, that same source acknowledged that the cacophony of drama—including differing accounts of Shia LaBeouf’s exit and lawyers for Wilde’s ex Jason Sudeikis serving her custody papers at the film’s April CinemaCon presentation—have led to “a salad of good gossip.”

And while Pugh may be outwardly distancing herself from the spectacle, members of her team are slyly paying tribute to it. On the night of Don’t Worry Darling’s Venice red carpet, her stylists could be seen wearing “Miss Flo” tees—a possible nod to leaked video footage of Wilde urging LaBeouf to stay on the project with the idea that his threats of an exit could serve as “a wake-up call for Miss Flo.”
