The BIG EAST regular season gets underway for the Wildcats on Wednesday, Dec. 21 when Villanova hosts St. John's at 6:30 p.m. at Finneran Pavilion (FS1). After a road trip to Connecticut for a game on Wednesday, Dec. 28, the 'Cats return to Finneran Pavilion on Dec. 31 to meet Marquette at 2 p.m. It will be the first New Year's Eve home game for Villanova since Dec. 31, 2015, when it knocked off Xavier 95-64 at the Pavilion.
The January home slate is highlighted by a Finneran Pavilion afternoon matchup with Georgetown on Monday, Jan. 16 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day) and a Wells Fargo Center appointment with Providence on Sunday, Jan. 29. That marks the first of four BIG EAST games the 'Cats will host at the Center (in addition to the previously announced Dec. 3 BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle contest vs. Oklahoma).
February will see Villanova play three straight games at home. The Wildcats meet DePaul and Butler at Finneran Pavilion (Feb. 8 and Feb. 14) and host Seton Hall at the Center at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. Creighton visits Philadelphia on Saturday, Feb. 25 at noon and Villanova will close out the regular season at Wells Fargo Center against Connecticut on Saturday, March 4 in a contest that will tip just after 7:30 p.m.
The Wildcats, now led by head coach Kyle Neptune after the April retirement of former head coach Jay Wright, open the 2022-23 regular season with a pair of Philadelphia Big Five matchups, at home against La Salle (Monday, Nov. 7) and at Temple (Friday, Nov. 11).
Villanova will again be a fixture on national television in 2022-23. With several television network assignments still to be announced, the 'Cats are slated to appear on Fox (six times), CBS (once), FS1 (14 times), CBS Sports Network (three times), ESPN2 (once), FS2 (once), and ESPNU/ESPN (twice) over the course of the regular season.
A season ago Villanova posted a 30-8 overall record and advanced to its third NCAA Final Four since 2016. It also earned the BIG EAST Tournament title, the ninth consecutive season in which it claimed a regular season or league tourney crown. Three starters from the 2021-22 Wildcats return, including Eric Dixon, Brandon Slater and Justin Moore, who continues to recover from a torn Achilles tendon injury suffered in the 50-44 victory over Houston in the NCAA Elite Eight. Also returning is sixth man, guard Caleb Daniels.
