As the Chicago Bears prepare for their preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns, there are several roster spots still available and a handful of players who have the opportunity to make a strong case for one.

With the Bears needing to trim their roster from 80 to 53 players by next Tuesday, this is the last chance to some to make a last-minute push or to cement their roster status with a strong performance.

Here’s a look at those roster locks and roster spots up for grabs heading into the Bears’ preseason finale.

Quarterback

Locks (2): Justin Fields, Trevor Siemian
Roster spots available: 0

There’s no question about Fields and Siemian making the roster. Unlike last season, there’s no need for the Bears to carry three quarterbacks. Sorry, Nathan Peterman.

Running back

Locks (2): David Montgomery, Khalil Herbert
Roster spots available: 2-3

The Bears have a deep running back room, but at this point Montgomery and Herbert are the only locks ahead of the finale. With that said, rookie Trestan Ebner and fullback Khari Blasingame are safe bets to make the roster. Depending on how many running backs the Bears choose to carry, Darrynton Evans should have a chance to make the roster.

Locks (4): Darnell Mooney, Equanimeous St. Brown, Byron Pringle, Velus Jones Jr.
Roster spots available: 2

Mooney is the lone true lock at wide receiver, but St. Brown, Pringle and Jones are all near-locks at this point. N’Keal Harry remains sidelined after having surgery on his ankle, but he stands a good chance of making the initial roster before being placed on injured reserve. That leaves two roster spots up for grabs for guys like Tajae Sharpe, Dante Pettis, Isaiah Coulter and Nsimba Webster.

Tight end

Locks (3): Cole Kmet, Ryan Griffin, James O’Shaughnessy
Roster spots available: 0-1

Kmet is the only tight end guaranteed a roster spot heading into the final roster deadline, but veterans Ryan Griffin and James O’Shaughnessy should make the final roster. The question comes down to whether Chicago opts to keep rookie Jake Tonges, who’s been serving as both tight end and fullback for this offense. That would likely impact whether the Bears keep a fifth running back.

Locks (8): Braxton Jones, Cody Whitehair, Lucas Patrick, Teven Jenkins, Larry Borom, Sam Mustipher, Riley Reiff, Michael Schofield
Roster spots available: 2-3

It feels safe to say that Jones, Whitehair, Patrick, Jenkins, Borom, Reiff and Mustipher are locks to make the roster. Whether it’s because they’re presumptive starters or provide solid depth on the line. That leaves about one to two roster spots up for grabs for rookies Zachary Thomas and Ja’Tyre Carter, as well as veterans like Shon Coleman.

Defensive line

Locks (3): Justin Jones, Angelo Blackson, Khyiris Tonga
Roster spots available: 1

Jones is the starting 3-technique in Matt Eberflus’ defense, and he’s been a lock since he signed with Chicago. Blackson and Tonga are also safe bets to make the roster, and they’re all but locks at this point. That leaves one roster spot up for grabs between Trevon Coley, Mike Pennel and Micah Dew-Treadway.

Edge rusher

Locks (5): Robert Quinn, Trevis Gipson, Al-Quadin Muhammad, Mario Edwards, Dominique Robinson
Roster spots available: 0

Quinn, Gipson and Muhammad are the obvious locks at defensive end, and they’ll see plenty of action this season. But Edwards and Robinson are also safe bets to make the roster. Edwards can play both inside and on the edge, but he’s been listed primarily as a defensive end. Robinson has had an impressive preseason, and he figures to see some opportunities.

Linebacker

Locks (2): Roquan Smith, Nicholas Morrow
Roster spots available: 3

Smith and Morrow are locks at linebacker, where they’ll occupy the WILL and MIKE roles. That leaves three roster spots up for grabs. Matt Adams and Joe Thomas have been expected to make the roster for some time. Undrafted rookie Jack Sanborn has elevated his stock and made a case for a roster spot with a strong preseason performance on defense and special teams.

Cornerback

Locks (4): Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Kindle Vildor, Tavon Young
Roster spots available: 2

Johnson and Gordon are definite locks at cornerback. Vildor and Young also appear to be locks given their respective positions and the fact that one of them will be starting — depending on where Gordon lines up, be it outside or in the slot. That leaves two roster spots up for grabs, where guys like Thomas Graham, Duke Shelley, Lamar Jackson and others will compete to serve as depth.

Safety

Locks (3): Eddie Jackson, Jaquan Brisker, DeAndre Houston-Carson
Roster spots available: 1-2

Jackson and Brisker are the obvious locks at safety, but Houston-Carson is another sure bet given his importance as a reserve and special teams contributions. The Bears could carry five safeties on the roster, which means Dane Cruikshank and rookie Elijah Hicks would likely make the cut. Special teams is the best way to lock down those final roster spots.

Locks (3): Cairo Santos, Trenton Gill, Patrick Scales
Roster spots available: 0

There’s no question about Chicago’s special teams with Santos, Gill and Scales.
