The Flyers lost consecutive games for the first time this season by dropping to the Bruins, 5-2, Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Prior to the defeat, Alain Vigneault's club was 6-0-0 in games after a loss.
The Flyers (8-5-3) went 1-1-1 on their three-game homestand. They allowed 21 shots in the first period against Boston and gave up four goals over the final two periods. Meanwhile, they have not been able to find ways to score consistently.
The Bruins (9-5-0) played for the first time since last Sunday and have won a season-best three straight.
• The Flyers are still struggling offensively. They haven't had a true breakout game since Oct. 27, when they beat the Oilers, 5-3. They've scored 1.80 goals per game over their last 10 outings.
• With the Flyers trailing 4-2 and on the power play in the third period, they were whistled for a delay of game penalty via a faceoff violation. As a result, their man advantage turned into 4-on-4 hockey.
The Bruins capitalized with a David Pastrnak goal and the game was sealed.
The Flyers were incensed by the call as Claude Giroux and Derick Brassard were animated in their discussions with the officials.
"There’s a lot of new linesmen around the league — there’s young guys and there's older guys obviously," Brassard said. "We've just got to find a way to work with them. He’s probably going to watch it. For us, it was a reset because [Patrice] Bergeron kind of pushed [it out of] the hand of the ref, so that puck never touched down.
"It is what it is, hopefully that ref's going learn from it and everyone makes mistakes."
• The Flyers' power play, which was 4 for its last 42, stemmed the tide with a game-tying goal in the second period.
Brassard did the honors. The 34-year-old center netted both of the Flyers' markers to erase Boston's 2-0 lead in the middle stanza.
The Flyers' man advantage finished 1 for 5.
• Martin Jones faced an onslaught from Boston. The Bruins put 44 shots on the 31-year-old goalie.
Back on Oct. 20, Jones had to stop 37 of 40 shots against Boston in the Flyers' 6-3 win.
Jones was not sharp in the second meeting. He still finished with 39 saves.
Boston received two goals from Derek Forbort, giving the 29-year-old defenseman a new career high of four.
Bottom-six forward Craig Smith scored a backbreaking goal 1:28 minutes into the third period to cushion the Bruins' advantage to 4-2. Jones definitely could have stopped Smith's shot.
"We were confident going into the third," Vigneault said. "Their second shift, they were able to get that goal there on a 1-on-1, bad angle. Jonesy made some great saves; that one there, he probably could have back."
Boston netminder Linus Ullmark made 29 saves.
• Joel Farabee entered the night with one point (a goal) in the last 12 games after putting up six points (three goals, three assists) through the Flyers' 2-0-1 start.
"Just try to get back to basics," Farabee said after morning skate. "Obviously points aren't coming right now, but just trying to help in any way I can, whether it's PK or 5-on-5. Just trying to be good defensively and hopefully that will change into good offensively."
Farabee got involved Saturday night by jumping in the ring with Charlie McAvoy during the second period. Farabee took a big shot or two and lost the fight, but to his credit, the 21-year-old winger hasn't shied away from dropping the gloves. Farabee, who is one of the Flyers' lightest players, has fought five times in his career.
• In health matters:
Vigneault did not have an update Saturday morning on Kevin Hayes' status.
Patrick Brown is in the process of deciding whether he'll rehab his dislocated thumb or undergo surgery.
Max Willman has filled in the last two games on an emergency loan, but keep an eye on Morgan Frost (three goals and 10 assists in his last 10 games with AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley).
• The Flyers are off Sunday and practice Monday in Tampa Bay, Florida, before facing the Lightning on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET/NBCSP).
The matchup with Tampa Bay is the first game of a back-to-back road set for the Flyers as they visit the Panthers on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET/NBCSP).
