New York (AP) — Twenty years after being destroyed by the September 11 attack, reconstruction of the World Trade Center complex remains incomplete.
The two planned skyscrapers, the performing arts center and the church are not yet complete. The site will host an annual ceremony on Saturday honoring nearly 3,000 people killed in the attack.
Visitors to the commemorative ceremony will find places where the construction zone is no longer felt, despite continued work.
The Memorial Plaza, with its twin reflecting pool, opened in 2011. One World Trade Center (originally known as the Freedom Tower) opened in 2014, and the National Museum of September 11th. An underground transportation hub and shopping mall opened in 2016. Three other glass towers are open that were built to replace what was lost in the attack.

2 World Trade Center

Performing Arts Center
After a few years delay, the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center is under construction just west of the future site of the 2 World Trade Center and is scheduled to open in 2023.
The Performance Center was part of the original plans of World Trade Center master planner Daniel Libeskind, but after Frank Gehry and the Norwegian company Snohetta were asked to design it in 2004, the budget and design controversy turned out to be. Threatened feasibility.

Greek Orthodox Church
The construction of the long-delayed Greek Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas and the National Shrine to replace the only place of worship destroyed by the attack is now active after years of delay.
Designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, the building is located near the southeast corner of Ground Zero and overlooks the Memorial Square from a perch above another building that holds the entrance to the World Trade Center’s underground car park.
The church, which will be completed next year, is surrounded by a small park, featuring Byzantine domes and marble cladding, which can be illuminated from the inside.
The project was first delayed by a controversy over the location between the Greek Orthodox Church in the United States and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns trade centers. Later, after the Archdiocese delinquent payments, the project’s cost surged in late 2017 and construction was discontinued.
A new entity, a friend of St. Nicholas, led by the core of a wealthy Greek-American, took over management and raised the rest of the money on behalf of the Archdiocese. Construction will resume in August 2020 and the final cost is estimated to be close to $ 85 million.

5 World Trade Center
