CADIZ — Village leaders hope enough residents complete a survey that could allow it to qualify as a low- to moderate-income area, opening the village up to funding opportunities.
In order to obtain grant funding, the village must first survey hundreds of households
Mayor John Migliore said out of the 1,513 homes in the village, 348 households were randomly selected to answer questions on the survey.
He said the survey, which the village mailed out to residents in February, will determine if the village will qualify as a low- to moderate-income community.
If the village qualifies, it will have the opportunity to obtain a $750,000 grant through Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association that will be used toward its water and sewer upgrade projects.
“That way it will keep the cost of our water and sewer at a lower rate,” he said.
OMEGA formulated the questionnaire, which inquires mostly about a household’s income. The organization also selected the homes that would receive the survey.
As of Friday, around 90 had been returned to the village but it needs them all returned to proceed with the possible funding source.
Migliore said they are urging residents who may have received the survey to complete it and return it to the village as soon as possible.
“Please fill it out and send it back to the village because it’s very important for the village to have that information,” he added.
In other matters, the cemetery committee is moving forward with purchasing a piece of property that adjoins Cadiz Union Cemetery.
Migliore said the committee plans to purchase the “small area” of property for $1,000.
“There’s an old trailer on it they’re going to take away and clean that area up and use it for the cemetery,” he said.
He said the property will not be used for additional grave sites but to house equipment used to maintain the cemetery.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. June 17 at the municipal building, 128 Court St., Cadiz.
