Raleigh, N.C. — Although Governor Roy Cooper announced Friday that North Carolina no longer requires masks and social distancing, some stores are playing it safe and still requiring masks.
All current capacity restrictions in indoor spaces have also been lifted.
As of Friday, more than 35% of adults in the state are fully vaccinated; however, that leaves a large percentage that are still unprotected. Many children have also not yet been vaccinated.
Chain stores like Target, Harris Teeter, Starbucks and Home Depot planned to continue requiring masks. The governor said businesses and local governments can maintain their own mask mandates if they choose.
