For Head Coach Rachel Martin, the performance was not only a season best by nearly 30 points over the previous season best (4,670 at Ohio State on Jan. 9), but it showed the depth of the Huskers' lineup, as NU claimed four of the six spots in both events on Sunday to move to 3-1 on the season. Prior to this weekend's sweep, Nebraska had won just one of its last six matches against Air Force dating back to the 2015-16 season.
"This is the performance that our athletes have been working so hard to produce," Martin said after the Huskers recorded seven season bests on Sunday. "Today it was not about the individual, but how they came together and functioned as a cohesive team. Cheramie, Ossi, Erickson, and Flake had great performances. It's a good day to be a Husker."
In the Smallbore, freshman Cecelia Ossi pace the Big Red with her first event title with a score of 584 as the Huskers won 2,329-2,317. One point separated the top four finishers in the apparatus as Madelynn Erickson (583) and Emily Cheramie (583) finished third and fourth, respectively. Elena Flake rounded out NU's lineup by finishing sixth with a score of 579.
In the Air Rifle, Flake led the Husker contingent with a score of 595 to finish second, just ahead of Erickson's 594. Cheramie (592, fifth) and Ossi (589, sixth) rounded out the lineup, as NU counted four scores of 589 or better en route to a 2,370-2,359 win on the event.
Morgan Kreb from Air Force won the Air Rifle with a mark of 595, as she also finished second in the Smallbore (583).
The Huskers return to action next weekend for a pair of matches at Kentucky (Fri., Jan. 22) and against NC State (Sun, Jan. 24).
