The Houston Texans finished the 2020 season with a 4-12 record that resulted in a third place finish in the AFC South. Head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien was fired after a Week 4 loss dropped the team to 0-4.
The team has DeShaun Watson installed as its franchise quarterback, but the franchise otherwise seems rudderless with significant questions around head of football operations Jack Easterbay. O’Brien gutted significant aspects of the team, trading away DeAndre Hopkins and dealing away the team’s first and second round picks this year in the Laremy Tunsil trade.
The Texans are currently over the projected 2021 salary cap and need to get their house in order before they can aggressively move to rebuild the team. It helps having a franchise QB on offense and J.J. Watt on defense, but the organization has a lot of work to do.
2021 opponents
The Texans face their AFC South divisional opponents six times, half at home and half on the road. In addition, they draw matchups against all four teams from the AFC East and NFC West. The NFL is expected to add a 17th game to the regular season schedule that will feature an inter-conference matchup with a similarly placed team. The Texans would face the NFC South.
