PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team finished first at the Temple Triangular with a come from behind effort, Saturday, Jan. 16. EMU ended the night scoring 194.300, followed by Towson, 193.925, and host Temple, 192.400.

"I am so proud of this team" said head coach Katie Minasola, "With so many changes, they adapted, and competed well. One thing We wanted to do is finish the meet strong, no matter what! It was great to get the freshman, Hadyn, and Molly out there. I am excited to get back in the gym and work on the cleaning up."

The night started for the Eagles on bars and it was the seniors, Jada Rondeau (Savage, Minn.-Central) and Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) who led the way for the squad, scoring 9.850 and 9.825, and claiming first and second place respectively. Rondeau tied her career-high as EMU jumped out to an early lead in the first rotation with a team score of 48.725. Freshman Raisa Boris (Brooklyn, Minn.-Park Center) earned a 9.700 in her collegiate debut, as junior Kara Roberts (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) and sophomore Molly Parris (Hudson, Ohio-Hudson) both added scores of 9.675.

On beam, Towson (97.150) leap-frogged Eastern (97.075), but junior Caitlin Satler (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) did not falter, scoring 9.825 and taking home first in the event. Rondeau and sophomore Mickayla Stuckey (Union City, Ind.-Indiana Connections Academy) contributed scores of 9.675, tying for fifth. Parris chipped in a score of 9.650, and senior Brianna Price (Kings Mountain, N.C.-Homeschool) added a score of 9.550.

The Green and White continued to trail Towson 146.050-145.450 after floor. However, it was Rondeau again with the veteran leadership, leading the group with a 9.750, which tied for eight. Following the senior was Roberts, 9.700, and Boris, 9.675. Another freshman breaking into the lineup in meet one, Anna Grace McCullough (Birmingham, Ala.-Briarwood Christian), and junior Shannon Gregory (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens), added scores of 9.625.

Closing out the meet on vault, the EMU lowest scoring event last season, the Eagles did not flinch. Sophomore Hadyn Crossen (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) scored big in the first vault of her career, sticking a 9.825 to claim silver. Parris and Roberts added scores of 9.775, a career-best for the sophomore. Senior Cali Harden (Saline, Mich.-Saline) and junior Carly Kosanovich (Moon Twp, Pa.-Moon Area) both chipped in 9.725's, also a career high for Kosanovich. The Green and White earned their biggest score of the night (48.850) when they needed it most, completing the comeback and finishing with 194.300 for first place. Furthermore, Eastern was the only team in the contest to score at least 48.000 on each event.

The Eagles return home to host Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green in their 2021 home opener, Sunday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. The meet will be broadcast on ESPN3 with Tom Helmer (pxp) and Ashlee Buhler (analyst).
