More than two months after the first COVID-19 case was announced in New Jersey, 10 tiny towns in the Garden State still have not had a resident infected.
Three are municipalities that have 16 or less people and only one of the towns without a case has a population of at least 1,000.
It’s unknown how many people in quirky Winfield (population 1,471) have the coronavirus as the neither the township nor Union County have released information.
More than 133,600 people have tested positive in all 21 counties as of Thursday, but these municipalities have none:
- Cape May Point, Cape May County (population 291 per the 2010 census)
- Elsinboro, Salem (1,036)
- Harvey Cedars, Ocean (337)
- Mantoloking, Ocean (296)
- Pine Valley, Camden (12)
- Tavistock, Camden (5)
- Shiloh, Cumberland (516)
- Stockton, Hunterdon (538)
- Walpack, Sussex (16)
- Washington Township, Burlington (687)
On the flip side, the state’s three most populous cities — Newark, Jersey City and Paterson — have 6,092, 5,899 and 5,971 cases respectively. At least 8,801 have died in of COVID-19 related as of Thursday. Tens of thousands have recovered.
