Disney Plus is announcing that “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” will stream on the service beginning Monday, May 4, two months earlier than planned. The final film in the Skywalker saga that began with George Lucas’ 1977 original “Star Wars,” “The Rise of Skywalker” comes to Disney Plus just in time for what has become known as “Star Wars Day.”

As the slogan, “May the Fourth Be With You” indicates, May 4 has become an annual occasion to celebrate everything associated with the “Star Wars” universe. The streaming home for “Star Wars” projects, Disney Plus has stocked up the cupboard with all sorts of treats for fans.

The nine movies in the Skywalker saga are “The Rise of Skywalker”; “The Last Jedi”; “The Force Awakens”; “Star Wars: A New Hope” (which is how the first “Star Wars" feature is now known); “The Empire Strikes Back”; “Return of the Jedi”; “Revenge of the Sith”; “Attack of the Clones”; and “The Phantom Menace.”

There’s more “Star Wars”-themed content coming to Disney Plus on May 4. The new eight-episode documentary series, “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian,” offers a behind-the-scenes look at the the making of “The Mandalorian,” a DIsney Plus original series that’s set in the “Star Wars” universe.

Executive producer Jon Favreau will be joined by members of the cast and crew, and the show is described as focusing on the filmmaking process, the “Star Wars” legacy, and technical details of how Season 1 of the show, which has been renewed, came together. New episodes of “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian” will stream on Disney Plus every Friday.

Also streaming on May 4 is the series finale of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” the animated series that has, over the course of its seven seasons, chronicled events that culminated in the movie, “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.”

Voice actors for “The Clone Wars” have included Oregon’s own Katee Sackhoff, along with Matt Lanter, Ashley Eckstein, and Sam Witwer.

Other “Star, Wars” content streaming on Disney Plus includes the movie, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” and the animated series, “Star War Rebels," and “Star Wars Resistance.”

The Disney Plus May 4 special content includes what the service calling a week-long concept art takeover, in which each “Star Wars” film and series’ artwork will be updated to feature original concept paintings, featuring work from such artists as Ralph McQuarrie.
