For anyone that assumed Matt Hardy signed with TNA after his surprise appearance at Rebellion, delete that idea. Hardy clarified his current contractual status as still a free agent.
After Moose defeated Nic Nemeth to retain the TNA World Championship in the main event of Rebellion, the lights went out for the teased mystery reveal. Lights on, and Matt Hardy was standing in the ring. It was the return of his Broken persona as well. Hardy delivered a Twist of Fate to Moose and stood tall holding the world title to close the show.
On a night with TNA contracts being signed for Steve Maclin and Mike Santana, it appears that Hardy is not an official acquisition. At least not as of late last night (Apr. 20, 2024). When asked on social media about his status, Hardy declared that he is still a free agent.
No. I’m a free agent. I will appear when I want to appear.

Hardy should have business to finish with Moose in TNA, but options remain open to re-sign with AEW or return to WWE, where he’s been teasing being a part of the rumored Bo Dallas faction in honor of Bray Wyatt. Even if Hardy does sign with AEW or WWE before a match with Moose, that shouldn’t necessarily put the kibosh on wrestling in the Impact Zone. Both companies have shown openness to working relationships with TNA when Kenny Omega won the Impact World Championship and Knockouts champions Mickie James and Jordynne Grace appeared in Royal Rumbles.
Hardy’s wrestling future is still up in the air, but one thing is clear. He is getting in shape for what could be his final run.
How would you like to see the next chapter of Matt Hardy’s career play out?
