People 16 to 64 in Henrico County with pre-existing conditions may now complete a COVID-19 vaccination interest form through the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts’ website at vax.rchd.com.
The RHHD Wednesday afternoon opened the pre-registration opportunity for people in that group, which is part of Phase 1B of the state’s vaccination process. Those who complete the form are not registering for the vaccine but rather adding their names to a list that RHHD officials will use when vaccines become available for members of the group, perhaps sometime in March.
Vaccinations in Henrico and Richmond currently are available only to senior citizens 65 and older, healthcare workers, public safety and education employees and employees and residents of congregate living facilities – a group that includes more than 117,000 people in the two localities (only about 66,000 of whom have received at least one dose so far.
Because there are still about 50,000 people in those groups who will be vaccinated before anyone else in Phase 1B, RHHD officials had elected not to open pre-registration to subsequent groups yet.
But on Monday they indicated during a Facebook Live event that they would do so by Feb. 15, because of heightened interest from people younger than 65 with pre-existing conditions. That process apparently happened faster than anticipated.
Those who pre-register will be contacted by the health districts when their names have been selected for vaccination.
