DURHAM, N.C. – The trio of redshirt senior Brooke Heinsohn and seniors Tess Boade and Remi Swartz spent their summers in successful fashion, landing internships with some of the top companies in the nation.
Heinsohn, Duke's starting goalkeeper, spent the summer working for Goldman Sachs—a Fortune 500 company--remotely. She worked as a Global Capital Markets summer analyst as a part of a five-week remote program that was originally meant to be a 10-week program in New York City. Heinsohn worked with the Sales & Trading department, gaining an understanding of the stock market and financial instruments and products that help to trade in the markets.
As an intern, she wrote market-recaps, research summaries, completed stock pitches, morning updates on the equities markets, research call notes, group presentations, and networked throughout the entire program.
"I learned a lot throughout the internship and got to work with the best professionals in the field while also getting to meet intelligent interns from around the world," Heinsohn said of her summer virtual experience. "I really enjoyed my time during the internship and learned so much in a short time, it was truly a privilege to be in an environment like that."
Boade, a starting forward for the Blue Devils, spent her summer working for Nike—another Fortune 500 company—in a remote setting. She worked with the Global Communications team for Nike Direct, dedicated to improving the communication between Nike's corporate function and their retail employees. Boade also assisted the project of authenticating Nike apparel during her summer experience with the company.
"I'm very grateful that Nike embraced the uncharted territories of a virtual internship," Boade said of her summer experience with the world's largest athletic apparel maker. "It was an amazing growing opportunity as I got to connect with and learn from peers, mentors and several guest speakers."
Swartz, a senior defender, had the opportunity to work at ViacomCBS as a sales and marketing intern this summer. Her responsibilities were centered around working with their sports team, but she was also given exposure to the company's other facets.
"The working environment on the sales team was strikingly similar to that of a collegiate sports team: many people working in different positions, but all working toward achieving a common goal," said Swartz of her summer internship. "Through my work with the sports team, I gained a lot of insight into how streaming rights work, along with the rights that ViacomCBS currently owns and has recently acquired."
