I do not know how the Texans lost to the Tennessee Titans.
Actually, I do.
They are still the Texans.
Which means that, even after they fire their head coach/general manager, they can still find a way to blow one of their biggest opportunities in two seasons.
By not kicking an extra point.
I mean what the ___.
It was 14-0 Tennessee.
It could have been 28-10 Titans.
Then the turnovers started kicking in, the Texans' offense started attacking and Tennessee's undefeated record was in serious trouble.
Deshaun Watson was fantastic Sunday: 28-of-37 for 335 passing yards, four touchdowns and a 138.9 rating.
It's hard to be better than that, especially on a 1-5 team.
It was 36-29 Texans with 1 minutes, 50 seconds to go.
All Romeo Crennel had to do was kick an extra point. The Texans would have been up by eight points. Tennessee would have had to score a TD and record a successful two-point conversion, just to force overtime.
After successfully going for it on fourth-and-short several times, the Texans opted for a nine-point advantage.
The only problem with that: The failed two-point conversion kept their lead within seven points. Which meant that all the Titans had to do was score a TD and kick an extra point to force OT — no two-point conversion was required.
The game changed again and Tennessee responded by running all over the Texans' face.
Derrick Henry, a literal football machine, ran for 212 yards and collected 52 through the air. The Titans outscored the Texans 13-0 when they were given a last bit of life and never gave the ball back once OT began.
Video-game nerds will insist the Texans should have played a video game and gone for two.
Reality immediately laughed. It also now says the Texans are 1-5, the Titans are still undefeated and atop the AFC South at 5-0, and Crennel blew it Sunday at the worst possible time by creating a late opening for Tennessee.
Did the Titans roll up a ridiculous 601 offensive yards against the Texans' defense? Sure.
Was Crennel formerly the Texans' defensive coordinator and shouldn't he be able to put together a little better defense now that he's the interim head coach? Of course.
So much for all the undeserved praise for current DC Anthony Weaver, by the way.
The moment a one-win team gave an undefeated, significantly stronger team life, the Titans said thanks and pounded away.
The Texans are a horrible 1-5 in 2020. Because two coaches now haven't been good enough to win winnable games.
Watson still deserves better than this.
